Bike or Car RC Registered in UP, Challan Issued in Delhi… Where Must the Fine Be Paid? Know the Lok Adalat Rules
Challan Payment Rules: The next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on May 9. The deadline for registration for this event is today—May 7. Challans issued up to January 31 will be settled during this session.
E-Challan Payment: It often happens that you take your bike or car to another city or state. Consequently, you may have to face the repercussions of inadvertently or unknowingly violating traffic rules only after returning home. You typically discover that a challan has been issued against you only after you have arrived back home.
Suppose your vehicle is registered in Uttar Pradesh (UP), but a challan was issued in Delhi; what happens then? According to the rules, you must pay the challan in accordance with Delhi’s system, as the fine is processed under the regulations of the specific state where the violation occurred.
Where and How to Pay the Challan?
You can pay the challan using both online and offline methods. To pay online, you must visit the Delhi Traffic Police website or the ‘Parivahan’ e-challan portal and make the payment by entering your vehicle registration number or the challan number. Alternatively, you may also pay the challan by visiting the Virtual Court portal at vcourts.gov.in. To pay the challan offline, you must visit any nearby police station or police headquarters in Delhi and make the payment using cash or a card.
Lok Adalat Session in Delhi
It often happens that the traffic police issue hefty fines even for minor violations. If you have faced such a situation, you have only until today to get your traffic challan waived. In Delhi, the National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on May 9, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The deadline for registration or token booking for this event is today—May 7. This presents an excellent opportunity for you to get your traffic challans waived.
How to Register?

- First, log in to the Delhi Traffic Police’s Lok Adalat portal.

Where will the Adalat be held?
On Saturday, May 9th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Lok Adalats will be held across all 7 District Courts of Delhi: Patiala House, Tis Hazari, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket, Dwarka, and Rouse Avenue.
These proceedings will address only those ‘compoundable’ challans pending up to January 31, 2026—specifically cases involving failure to wear a helmet, failure to wear a seatbelt, overspeeding, jumping red lights, and improper parking. However, serious criminal offenses—such as drunk driving, hit-and-run incidents, and major criminal accidents—will not be heard during these sessions.
What is a Lok Adalat?
Lok Adalats are convened periodically across various parts of the country. They serve to resolve a wide range of cases, including traffic challans. The verdict delivered by a Lok Adalat is final and binding; no further appeal can be filed against it in any other court. There are no court fees involved, and the process eliminates the hassle of making repeated rounds of the courts.
Depending on the nature of the offense, the presiding judge may reduce the fine amount or even waive it entirely. It is mandatory to carry your token or appointment letter with you when visiting the Lok Adalat. You should also carry a printout of your challan, as there is no guarantee that printing facilities will be available at the court premises.
