What major changes have been introduced in the PDS scheme?

It is worth noting that the government has implemented three major changes to further strengthen this scheme, namely:

1. Financial Assistance to States

The Central Government will now provide financial assistance to states to cover the expenses incurred in the ration delivery system—specifically, the costs involved in transporting rations from warehouses to the retail shops.

2. Increased Commission for Ration Dealers

Additionally, fulfilling a long-standing demand of ration shopkeepers, their commission will now be increased, thereby improving their income.

3. Utilization of AI and Technology

Going forward, the registration of beneficiaries and the entire operational process will be managed through AI and digital systems; this is expected to curb fraudulent activities and enhance transparency.
