Bihar Pond Scheme 2025: Earn Big with Just 20% Investment – Government to Cover the Rest

Are you looking for a sustainable source of income and have access to land in Bihar’s hilly regions? If yes, the Bihar government’s latest initiative under the Fisheries Department could be your golden opportunity. The state government is offering up to 80% subsidy for constructing ponds under its new scheme, encouraging fish farming and promoting self-employment among Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.

What’s the Scheme About?

The Bihar government has launched a subsidy-based pond construction scheme to promote aquaculture in the plateau regions of southern Bihar. The initiative aims to provide financial assistance for constructing ponds, installing tube wells, solar pumps, and building pond sheds. Beneficiaries also receive help in acquiring quality inputs for fish farming.

Under this scheme, if you construct a pond on 0.4 to 1 acre of land, the government will bear 80% of the total cost. This means if your project costs around ₹16.70 lakh, you can receive a subsidy of ₹13.36 lakh, while you only need to invest ₹3.34 lakh from your side.

Who Can Apply?

This scheme is exclusively for SC/ST fish farmers residing in the southern districts of Bihar including:

  • Banka

  • Aurangabad

  • Gaya

  • Kaimur

  • Nawada

  • Jamui

  • Munger

  • Rohtas

Applicants must either own land or have it on lease. Leased land must be registered on ₹1,000 stamp paper with a minimum lease duration of 9 years.

Key Benefits:

  • Up to ₹13.36 lakh subsidy

  • Only 20% personal investment

  • Monthly income potential through fish farming

  • Support for infrastructure including solar pump and shed

  • No need for bank loans in most cases

How to Apply?

  1. Visit the official website of Bihar Fisheries Department.

  2. Register on the portal (mandatory).

  3. Fill out the online application form before the deadline – August 31, 2025.

  4. Upload necessary documents including:

    • Caste certificate

    • Aadhar card

    • Voter ID

    • Bank account details (with IFSC & branch)

    • Land ownership proof or lease agreement

    • Site map of the pond area

Applications will be reviewed and approved by a district-level committee headed by the Deputy Fisheries Director.

Why This Scheme Matters?

With rising unemployment and limited opportunities in rural Bihar, this scheme opens up avenues for self-reliance and monthly income generation through aquaculture. By encouraging fish farming, the state is not only uplifting marginalized communities but also boosting the rural economy.

Conclusion:

If you belong to the SC/ST community and reside in southern Bihar, this is your chance to build a stable livelihood. With minimal investment and major financial support from the government, you can start a profitable venture. Just make sure to apply before August 31, 2025, and take the first step toward financial independence.
