The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has unveiled another major welfare initiative, this time focused on empowering women across the state. The newly approved Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana promises to provide financial assistance to one woman from every family to help them begin their own source of livelihood.

Under the scheme, the state will extend financial support of up to ₹2 lakh per family. To kickstart the program, every eligible woman will receive an initial installment of ₹10,000, directly credited to their Aadhaar-linked bank account.

Aim of the Scheme

Announcing the decision after a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasized that the government is committed to strengthening women’s economic independence. He stated that women have been playing a vital role in Bihar’s progress, and initiatives like this will further enhance their contribution.

“This mission is designed to ensure that every household in Bihar has at least one woman capable of generating income and becoming self-reliant,” Kumar said in his social media post, confirming the cabinet approval of the scheme.

Financial Assistance Structure

The scheme will be rolled out in two phases:

  • First installment: ₹10,000 to be transferred in September 2025.

  • Further support: After a six-month evaluation of the business or activity, the government may extend additional financial aid of up to ₹2 lakh, depending on the requirements and feasibility.

Officials from the Rural Development Department, which has been tasked with implementing the scheme, will monitor the progress of beneficiaries. The Urban Development and Housing Department will also provide support, particularly in urban areas.

Application Process

Women interested in availing the benefits will soon be able to apply once the government formally launches the registration process. Applicants will be required to mention the type of work or small business they intend to start. However, activities listed under the prohibited category will not be funded.

The government has also proposed setting up “Haat Bazaars” across rural and urban areas to ensure that women have a market to sell their products, thereby boosting local entrepreneurship.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • The woman should be a resident of Bihar.

  • Only one woman from each family can apply.

  • At the time of application, she must clearly state the employment or business activity she wishes to undertake.

  • Restricted or prohibited activities will not be supported under the scheme.

When Will the Money Be Credited?

According to government sources, the first installment of ₹10,000 will begin reaching beneficiaries in September 2025. The amount will be deposited directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts to ensure transparency and eliminate middlemen.

Empowering Women Across Bihar

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is being seen as another crucial step by the Bihar government towards strengthening women’s role in the economy. With the state already running several initiatives for female education and welfare, this program specifically targets economic empowerment.

Experts believe that by encouraging women to set up small-scale businesses and providing them with market linkages, Bihar can witness a surge in grassroots entrepreneurship. It will not only improve household income but also create local job opportunities.

Conclusion

With this new scheme, the Bihar government has once again highlighted its focus on inclusive growth and women’s empowerment. For lakhs of women across villages and cities, this initiative could become the first step towards financial independence and sustainable livelihood.

If implemented effectively, the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana has the potential to transform families by enabling women to contribute actively to Bihar’s economic growth.
