Eighth Pay Commission: Government employees and pensioners have been eagerly waiting for the Eighth Pay Commission for about a year. This news can be a relief amid the delay in the formation of the commission and the uncertainties about it so far. The central government has clarified in this regard that they are seriously discussing the matter of the Eighth Pay Commission with the state governments, and a decision can be taken soon regarding the panel of the Pay Commission.

A delegation of Government Employees National Confederation (GENC), the apex body of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), met Union Minister Jitendra Singh last month. During this, the delay in the implementation of the Eighth Pay Commission and the concerns of government employees were discussed.

Announcement on the Eighth Pay Commission soon

It is worth noting that the Eighth Pay Commission was constituted in January this year. However, there has been no significant progress in this matter after that as the employees are waiting for the appointment of Pay Commission members and the Term of Reference (ToR).

In the meeting held on August 4 with Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, many issues were raised by the delegation. These included delay in the Eighth Pay Commission, removal of National Pension Scheme and Unified Scheme, restoration of Old Pension Scheme and other concerns including 18 months of DA stopped during COVID-19.

Assurance received from the Union Minister

Jitendra Singh assured that the panel of the Eighth Pay Commission will be constituted soon and a meeting will be held soon with the Pension Secretary regarding the Old Pension Scheme. He also assured the Confederation that a follow up meeting will be held soon with the Pension Secretary for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme. Also, other issues like compassionate appointments, cadre reviews and regular JCM meetings will be ensured.
