Big relief on Holi: Free gas cylinders will be available in Delhi and UP, know who can avail the benefit..
Free Gas Cylinder Scheme: Holi is approaching, and preparations have already begun in homes. It's common for kitchen expenses to rise during this time, especially the price of gas cylinders, which impacts the budget of many families. In this context, the governments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have made special announcements to provide relief to families in need.
What is the scheme in Delhi?
The Delhi government has decided to provide financial assistance for gas cylinders to eligible families during major festivals like Holi and Diwali. This scheme will be implemented twice a year. The government will not directly provide the cylinders, but will transfer an amount of ₹853 to the beneficiaries' bank accounts. This will allow families to refill their gas cylinders at their convenience.
A budget of approximately ₹242 crore has been allocated for this scheme. It is estimated that approximately 1.75 million ration card-holding families will benefit from this scheme. Importantly, households with pipeline gas connections will also receive equal assistance, meaning urban and low-income families will receive equal relief.
Who will receive free cylinders in UP?
The Uttar Pradesh government has also taken a major decision in view of the festival. Families in the state receiving gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will receive free cylinders on Holi. This will directly benefit rural and economically weaker sections.
The government says this step will provide relief to women and reduce kitchen expenses. Efforts are being made to protect families covered by the Ujjwala Yojana from financial burdens during the festival.
Who will not be eligible for the benefit?
In Delhi, only families with valid ration cards will be eligible for this assistance. Those without ration cards or those not included in the economically weaker section will not receive this benefit. Furthermore, government employees and retired government employees will also be excluded from this scheme.
In Uttar Pradesh, only beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Yojana will receive free cylinders. If your name is not registered under this scheme, you will not be able to avail this facility.
This initiative by both states has brought relief to millions of families during the festive season, ensuring that no household kitchen remains empty during the festival.
