The central government has launched the NPS e-Shramik Platform Service Partner Scheme for gig and freelance workers. Under this scheme, they are provided with financial security and pension benefits.

NPS e-Shramik scheme: With the changing world, people's work patterns are also changing. Working in the same office for years is becoming a thing of the past. Today's youth are doing freelance or gig work according to their qualifications. Freelance or gig work offers no restrictions. They can work according to their own wishes and schedule. Changing technology has contributed to the increase in the number of gig workers.

People are working for companies like Zomato, Swiggy, Ola, Uber, Blinkit, and Urban Company. However, these gig workers receive payment for their work but do not receive other benefits. They neither receive PF benefits nor any other pension scheme. For such workers, the Central Government has launched the NPS e-Shramik Platform Service Partner Scheme, which provides them with financial security and pension benefits.

What is the NPS e-Shramik Scheme?

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is now planning to integrate gig workers into the National Pension System (NPS). This move aims to provide retirement security to those who do not have a regular job.

Under this scheme, gig workers working for companies like Ola, Swiggy, and Blinkit can now register themselves and accumulate a pension for the future.

Registration Process

To avail the benefits of this scheme, you must first obtain a Quick PRAN (Quick Personal Information Transfer). This will verify the gig worker's KYC details, such as their name, address, PAN number, and bank account details.

After this, a PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) will be issued upon the worker's consent. Once the PRAN is created, the worker will be required to provide information regarding their parents, email address, and nominee. A 60-day deadline has been set for this.
