Big Relief for Flyers! New DGCA Rules Bring Comfort During Flight Delays
Flight Delays Just Got Easier to Handle! The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has introduced new passenger-friendly measures to alleviate the inconvenience caused by delayed flights, especially during the foggy winter months. Here's what you need to know:
What’s New?
-
Snacks and Meals for Delayed Flights:
Airlines must now provide water, snacks, and meals to passengers during prolonged delays:- Delays up to 2 hours: Passengers will receive drinking water onboard.
- Delays of 2-4 hours: Airlines must offer tea, coffee, and light snacks.
- Delays exceeding 4 hours: Passengers will be served a full meal.
These rules ensure no more hunger pangs during long waits!
-
Freedom to Disembark During Long Delays:
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has tackled another major issue. Passengers stuck on delayed flights can now:- Disembark from the plane and wait in the terminal area.
- Reboard the flight when it’s ready to depart.
This prevents the discomfort of sitting in cramped spaces for extended periods.
Why Now?
With the onset of winter, fog-related delays become frequent, leaving passengers stranded for hours without proper facilities. These DGCA directives aim to enhance the overall flying experience and minimize inconvenience.
What Passengers Need to Know:
- The Union Civil Aviation Ministry shared these updates via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
