Big Diwali Gift for Postal Employees: Two-Month Salary as Productivity Bonus Approved

Ahead of Diwali, the Central Government has announced a major festive bonus for lakhs of employees working in the Department of Posts. For the financial year 2024–25, postal employees will receive a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 60 days’ salary, i.e., two months of pay. The approval was granted after receiving the President’s assent, bringing festive cheer to postal workers across the country.
Double Celebration Before Diwali
The festival season in India often brings financial relief and happiness for government employees, and this announcement has made Diwali extra special for the postal department staff. Prior to this, the Central Government had already rolled out several employee-friendly measures, including an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), disbursal of other bonuses, and improvements in the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). The Diwali PLB bonus now adds another layer of joy for the postal workforce.
Who Will Benefit from the Bonus
According to the official order, this bonus will be applicable to Group C employees, Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), non-gazetted Group B employees, Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), and full-time casual laborers. This move is expected to directly benefit lakhs of postal workers across the nation, strengthening their financial stability and boosting morale during the festive period.
Bonus Calculation Formula
The Department of Posts has clarified that the bonus calculation will be based on the average monthly salary of the employee, following this formula:
(Average Salary × 60 days ÷ 30.4)
The calculation will include basic pay, dearness allowance (DA), special allowance, duty allowance, and training allowance. However, the maximum salary limit for bonus eligibility has been set at ₹7,000 per month. For Gramin Dak Sevaks, the bonus amount will be determined based on their Time-Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) and DA components.
Boost to Morale and Market
This timely decision by the government has sparked a wave of happiness among postal employees nationwide. The announcement not only uplifts their morale but is also expected to stimulate festive spending and local markets ahead of Diwali. With two months’ worth of salary coming as a bonus, employees are calling this festive season a “Double Delight Diwali.”
The Bigger Picture
The government’s initiative reflects its continued effort to recognize and reward the contribution of essential service employees like those in the postal sector, who play a vital role in connecting the nation. This performance-based incentive not only rewards productivity but also encourages efficiency and dedication in public service.
