DoT has once again made a big attack on cyber crime. The Department of Telecommunications has blocked 27 lakh mobile phones with the help of Sanchar Saathi. Apart from this, crores of SIM cards have also been closed.

The Department of Telecommunications has blocked 27 lakh mobile phones by taking a big action on cyber crime. The Department of Telecommunications has blacklisted the IMEI number of these mobile phones involved in cyber crime. After this, these phones will not be able to be used. DoT has shared this information from its official X handle. This action has been taken by the Department of Telecommunications in the last 15 months.

Used for cyber crime

According to the report, the Department of Telecommunications has taken this action on the basis of complaints made by users on the Sanchar Saathi portal. These mobile phones were used to send fake links etc. to people through SMS, WhatsApp and voice calls. The Department of Telecommunications has recently launched the Sanchar Saathi app. Apart from this, many users had also lodged complaints of cyber fraud through the Sanchar Sathi portal.

IMEI blacklisted

DoT said that the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of these lakhs of mobile handsets has been blacklisted. After this, these phones will not be able to be used anywhere in the world. Most mobile phones have been blocked from eastern Uttar Pradesh. About 2 lakh mobile phones have been blacklisted from eastern UP. Apart from this, 1.22 lakh mobile phones have been blocked from Bihar and Jharkhand. Also, 1.44 lakh handsets have been banned from western UP.

1.15 lakh mobile phones from the country's capital Delhi and 31 thousand mobile phones from Mumbai have been blacklisted. In this way, a total of 26.95 lakh mobile handsets have been blacklisted across India. Apart from blocking these mobile handsets, the Department of Telecommunications has also blocked 4.2 crore SIM cards. These SIM cards were used for cyber fraud. Also, action has been taken against many SIM card dealers and vendors.
