FASTag Annual Pass Fake Website Scam: If you are considering purchasing an annual FASTag pass for your vehicle, this news is specifically for you. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a warning to the public. It states that certain fraudulent websites are defrauding people by luring them with offers of annual FASTag passes. Furthermore, there has been a recent surge in cases involving online scammers who create fake websites—designed to look exactly like official government portals—to trick people into making payments.

Consequently, due to a lack of awareness, unsuspecting individuals often fall victim to these scammers' traps. The NHAI has urged the public to avail of any FASTag-related services exclusively through official government channels and trusted sources to safeguard themselves against fraud and financial loss.

How Does the FASTag Scam Work?
According to the NHAI, scammers are creating fraudulent websites that bear a striking resemblance to the authentic FASTag portal. These fake sites often appear at the very top of search engine results—such as those on Google—through the use of paid advertisements and search engine optimization (SEO) manipulation tactics. When an individual visits one of these websites, they are prompted to provide their mobile number, vehicle registration number, and payment-related details.

While the website appears entirely genuine, the payment is actually routed directly into the scammers' bank accounts. Moreover, in many instances, victims receive neither a legitimate confirmation message nor an actual FASTag pass. Additionally, some individuals are issued fraudulent receipts, only to discover later that they do not possess a valid FASTag.
