Hundreds of cyber fraud cases are reported every day across the country. People lose their money and other valuable possessions to these fraudsters. Although the government and administration are continuously taking various measures to curb such crimes, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has now issued an alert against fake GST notices.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Friday alerted companies about fake GST notices being sent to them and asked taxpayers to immediately report such fraudulent cases.

Beware of fake GST notices!
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued an alert, warning against fake GST notices being sent to private companies and businesses. GST taxpayers have been asked to immediately report such fraudulent cases. Fake notices are being sent online or physically, and fake GST officers are also making calls.

What did the CBIC say?
The CBIC said that fraudsters are sending fake summons by copying official GST documents. To make them appear genuine, they are using the names of Central GST officials and fake DIN numbers.

The board has advised taxpayers to verify the 'Document Identification Number' (DIN) mentioned in every communication or letter received from the department by visiting the CBIC portal. The board said that if the notice is genuine, it will be confirmed, and if not, it should be reported immediately.

The CBIC issued this clarification in response to a complaint from a user on the internet media platform 'X'. The user had complained about receiving a call from a purported GST officer.
