The interest rate is calculated based on income from debt and equity investments of EPFO.

The Finance Ministry said that in February this year, the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) had announced an interest rate of 8.25 percent for the financial year 2023-24, which has now been approved. The CBT in its meeting held on February 10, 2024, recommended an interest rate of 8.25% per annum for the financial year 2023-24 and the proposal was sent to the Ministry of Labor and Employment for forwarding it to the Finance Ministry. After this, the Finance Ministry approved the annual interest rate at the rate of 8.25% on May 06, 2024.

The ministry said that after being notified, interest at the revised rates is being paid to the current and outgoing members in their final PF settlement. Given this, 23,04,516 claims have been settled and an amount of Rs 9260,40,35,488 has been distributed to the members including the latest interest rate declared at the rate of 8.25% per annum.
