Farmers in four states have received the 21st installment of the PM Kisan Yojana. Floods in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir affected agriculture, prompting the central government to send the 21st installment to farmers in these states. Farmers in the remaining states are still awaiting the payment. However, ahead of the 21st installment, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made a significant announcement. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Thursday that the government aims to increase pulse production by 40 percent to 35 million tons by the 2030-31 crop year.

Recently, the Union Cabinet approved a six-year central plan with a financial outlay of ₹11,440 crore to achieve self-sufficiency in pulse production. The "Mission for Self-Reliance in Pulses" will be implemented from 2025-26 to 2030-31. The mission aims to promote pulse production. High-quality pulse seeds will also be provided to farmers through this mission.

What did Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan say?
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that pulse production will be increased over the next six years, as crop productivity will be increased along with increasing acreage. The government has identified 100 blocks where productivity is significantly lower than the national average. He expressed confidence that the target will be achieved. He also assured that the government will take appropriate decisions regarding the import duty on pulses to protect the interests of farmers.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that India is both the world's largest producer and its largest consumer. The country has to import large quantities of pulses to meet domestic demand. The minister stated that the objective of the Pulses Mission is to boost production and make India self-reliant. Chauhan said, "By 2030-31, we will increase the area under pulses from the current 27.5 million hectares to 31 million hectares. We have also set a target to increase pulse production from 24.2 million tons in 2023-24 to 35 million tons."

He said that pulse production is projected to increase to 25.238 million tons in the 2024-25 crop year. Crop productivity will increase from an average yield of 881 kilograms per hectare to 1,130 kilograms per hectare.

Good news may come before Diwali.
Farmers are awaiting the 21st installment. Farmers in four states have received ₹2,000 each in their accounts. However, farmers in other states are still waiting for it. No official announcement has been made by the government yet. However, it appears that the government will soon transfer the 21st installment of the PM Kisan Yojana to farmers' accounts. It is expected that Rs 2,000 each may be credited to the accounts of farmers before Diwali.
