Government's Major Decision Regarding Bank Strike: In view of the potential three-day strike scheduled from September 28 to 30, a decision has been made to keep banks open on Sunday as well. The Ministry of Finance has announced that there will be no holiday for banks this Sunday ahead of the strike starting Monday. All public sector banks—including SBI, PNB, Union Bank, Indian Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Canara Bank—will remain open. Regional Rural Banks will also remain operational.

Banking operations will continue as usual. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the central bank and regulator, has also approved this move. According to the RBI, this decision has been taken for the convenience of customers.

**Announcement of a Nationwide Three-Day Strike**
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30, 2026. Since September 26 and 27 fall on the weekend, the banking needs of the general public could be severely affected. Keeping this in mind, the government has taken necessary measures.

**Everything from Bank Branches to Currency Chests Will Remain Open**
The Ministry of Finance stated, "To ensure that the banking needs of the general public are not adversely affected for an extended period, all public sector banks and regional rural banks will function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026."

The Reserve Bank of India has granted approval for all bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches, and currency chests to remain fully operational on September 27.

The Finance Department remarked, "The welfare and convenience of bank customers are the government's top priority." The central government and bank management have appealed to the unions to call off the proposed strike and have taken steps to ensure that essential banking services continue without interruption.
