It is currently October, and with today being the 16th, there are about 15–16 days left in the month. During this period, several festivals—such as Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Karwa Chauth—will be celebrated. Consequently, banks will remain closed in various cities on different days. If you are planning to visit a bank to complete any urgent tasks during this time, be sure to check the list of holidays first.

According to the RBI’s holiday list, banks may remain closed on various dates between October 16 and October 30. These holidays vary by state and city. Additionally, the fourth Saturday of the month falls within this period; as you may know, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Naturally, banks are also closed on Sundays. Let’s take a look at when banks will be closed between October 16 and October 31.

When will banks be closed for Durga Puja and Dussehra?
In the second half of October, there will be holidays for Durga Puja and Dussehra in various cities on October 19, 20, and 21.

October 19: Due to Maha Navami and Ayudha Puja, banks will remain closed in Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Chennai, and Bhubaneswar, as well as in several cities across the northeastern states.

October 20: Banks are likely to remain closed in most cities on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami.

October 21: Some cities, including Bengaluru, Guwahati, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram, will observe a holiday for Vijaya Dashami.

October 22 and 23: Banks will remain closed in Gangtok due to Durga Puja and Dashain.

Banks will also be closed on October 24 and 25.
October 24 is the fourth Saturday of the month; therefore, banks will remain closed. On the following day, October 25, banking branches across the country will remain closed as it is a Sunday. Additionally, a holiday has been declared in Odisha and West Bengal on October 25 for the special Lakshmi Puja.

Subsequently, on October 26, banks will remain closed in Agartala, Chandigarh, Jammu, Shimla, and Srinagar due to Lakshmi Puja, Accession Day, or Valmiki Jayanti. Meanwhile, there will be a local holiday in Shimla on October 29 on the occasion of Karva Chauth.

How can you conduct financial transactions?
While bank branches are closed, you can utilize digital services—for instance, you can send money or make payments at shops using UPI apps. ATMs will also remain operational during this period. However, for tasks such as cheque clearance, document submission, or other branch-based activities, you may need to wait until the next working day.

If you need to deposit a cheque, obtain a demand draft, or complete any work involving documentation, you may want to check this list before the holidays begin.
