Bank Holiday Alert: Banks Closed in Several States Today, September 6, for Eid-e-Milad and Indrajatra

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, several states across India will observe bank holidays due to major religious festivals. While most branches in the country will remain open, banking services in select cities including Jammu, Raipur, Gangtok, and Srinagar will remain closed today on account of Eid-e-Milad and Indrajatra.
Why Are Banks Closed Today?
Eid-e-Milad, also known as Mawlid al-Nabi, marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad and holds deep spiritual significance for the Muslim community. Devotees commemorate the day with prayers, processions, and gatherings that highlight the Prophet’s teachings.
Indrajatra, on the other hand, is a traditional festival celebrated in Nepal and parts of North India. Dedicated to Lord Indra, the God of Rain, the festival features rituals, cultural programs, and community celebrations. As both festivals coincide this year, banks in the above-mentioned regions will remain closed.
It is worth noting that today is the first Saturday of the month. Unlike the second and fourth Saturdays, which are national bank holidays, the first Saturday typically sees regular operations. Therefore, customers in states unaffected by these local holidays can access full banking services as usual.
