When will schools be closed?
Due to the severe cold in many states of North India, the first few weeks of January will be spent on winter vacation. In addition, there will be other holidays, including:

January 1 - New Year
January 13 - Lohri (Regional holiday)
January 14 - Makar Sankranti / Pongal
January 23 - Basant Panchami / Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti
January 26 - Republic Day
Sundays - All schools will be closed on January 4, 11, 18, and 25.  Holidays may be extended in some states due to the cold weather.

When will banks be closed?
Weekly holidays - January 4, 11, 18, 25 (Sunday) and January 10, 24 (Saturday).
Festivals - January 14-15: Banks will be closed in many states on the occasion of Makar Sankranti/Pongal.
January 23 - There will be a holiday in states like West Bengal and Odisha on the occasion of Netaji Jayanti and Basant Panchami.
January 26 - All banks across the country will be closed on Republic Day.

Long Weekend
There are three consecutive holidays on January 24 (Saturday), January 25 (Sunday), and January 26 (Monday). This is the perfect opportunity to plan a trip.
