Modi government is running Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to ensure the health security of common citizens. Under this, lakhs of Indians are getting benefits. Now the government has expanded it. It has been talked about giving special facilities to senior citizens. Expanding AB-PMJAY, the central government has issued special Ayushman Vaya Vandana cards for senior citizens aged 70 years and above. So far more than 14 lakh cards have been made. That is, now 14 lakh people can get its benefit.

Through this, senior citizens are being provided free and cashless treatment irrespective of their socio-economic status. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav told the Lok Sabha that 1,961 procedures have been included in this scheme under 27 medical specialties. These diseases will be treated.

Advanced treatments such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ischemic stroke, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, and cardiac pacemaker are now available to eligible senior citizens. The government has also given states the freedom to customize health benefit packages according to their local context. As of October 31, 2024, 29,870 hospitals have been listed under this scheme, including 13,173 private hospitals.

This is how this scheme works.

The U-WIN digital platform has been launched to ensure timely vaccination of all pregnant women and children (0-16 years). Under the Universal Immunization Program (UIP), about 2.9 crore pregnant women and 2.6 crore infants are given vaccines against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases every year.

The main features of U-WIN include anywhere, anytime vaccination services, automated SMS alerts, QR-based e-vaccination certificates, and offline data entry. Since the nationwide rollout, 7.43 crore beneficiary registrations, 1.26 crore vaccination sessions and 27.77 crore vaccine doses have been recorded. This initiative is playing a vital role in increasing access to healthcare services and improving the lives of citizens.
