In the last few years, UPI has replaced cash. You must also be using it for shopping. Although it is not that cash is not being used at all, the digital payment method has become very popular in the recent past. You cannot deny this. By December 2024, the number of UPI users has reached 16.73 billion. Compared to the last few months, there is an increase of 8%.

Tier 1 cities of India are at the forefront in terms of UPI transactions. But along with this, it is also important to make the entire UPI ecosystem secure. Because these days cases of online fraud and scams have increased and many times scammers also use UPI to rob innocent people. That's why NPCI has issued a new circular and has said that it is important for every UPI user.

What is in NPCI's circular?

If your life also depends on UPI then you must read this. National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has said in its circular that now there should not be any special character in UPI ID. Now from February 1, there will be no permission to keep special characters in UPI ID. Most of us have special characters in our ID, change it immediately because transactions will not be possible with UPI with such ID from February 1. With this step, NPCI wants to improve digital security so that the UPI ecosystem can work properly.

However, this circular was issued by NPCI on January 9, in which it has been asked to strictly follow this rule. This means that if your UPI ID has characters like @, !, or #, then you will not be able to use it from February 1. Your transaction will fail automatically. Although most banks and payment platforms have adopted it, those who have not made these changes yet, will have to do this work before February 1.
