UPI New Rule: National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced the discontinuation of UPI Person-to-Person Collect Request Feature (UPI P2P Collect Request Feature) from October 1. Instructions have also been given to banks and payment apps regarding this. Actually, NPCI has decided to discontinue this feature to prevent increasing online fraud and make digital transactions secure. In such a situation, from October 1, now no UPI user will be able to send a request to another user to ask for money through UPI. In such a situation, if you also depend on Phone Pe, Google Pay and Paytm for online payment, then it is important for you to know about it.

What is P2P Collect Request Feature?

P2P Collect Request Feature i.e. Person-to-Person Collect Request Feature is such a feature of UPI, through which any one user can send a request to another user to ask for any amount of money through UPI. In such a situation, as soon as the other user accepts the request and enters his UPI PIN, the money from his account is automatically transferred to the account of the user asking for the request.

In simple language, suppose you sent a request to ask for Rs 1000 on the UPI ID of one of your friends. In such a situation, as soon as your friend accepts your request and enters his UPI PIN, the money will be deducted from his account and transferred to your account.

Why is it being closed?

P2P Collect Request Feature is now being used more by scammers. Scammers are cheating UPI users by sending them fake requests. Fraudsters used to trap UPI users to approve payment requests by sending them fake requests in the name of lottery or cashback. In such a situation, NPCI has taken this decision to prevent such fraud and strengthen the security of transactions with UPI.

What will be the impact on the general public?

This rule of NPCI will come into effect from October 1. After this, UPI users will not be able to send P2P (person-to-person) collect requests to anyone. However, this change is being implemented only on P2P transactions, merchant collect requests will work as before. That is, shopkeepers and e-commerce companies will be able to send you payment requests as before. In such a situation, if you order something online, then easily a payment request will come to your UPI ID and you will be able to make payment. Also, you can transfer money to anyone by scanning QR code or using UPI ID.
