ATM Withdrawal Rules Changed: Charges Apply After Free Limit Expiry
Canara Bank has revised certain charges for ATM transactions effective September 1, 2026. The free transaction limit for savings account holders has been reduced from six to five. However, there are no changes to the transaction limits for senior citizens.
If you use a Canara Bank ATM card, it is beneficial to be aware of the new charges before withdrawing cash. Effective September 1, 2026, the bank has modified specific ATM transaction rules. While the free transaction limit for savings account holders has decreased, costs have risen for cash withdrawals exceeding the limit and for transactions that fail due to insufficient funds.
Canara Bank savings account customers will now receive a total of five free ATM transactions per month; previously, the limit was six. This includes both financial and non-financial transactions. However, the limit of eight free transactions for senior citizens remains unchanged.
Once the free transaction limit is exhausted, service charges will apply to transactions made at Canara Bank ATMs and cash recyclers. However, these charges do not apply to cash deposit transactions. The bank has also stated that these service charges are subject to periodic revision.
Higher Charges for Cash Withdrawals
Customers will now have to pay more than before for cash withdrawals exceeding the free limit. The charge for withdrawing cash from Canara Bank ATMs has been raised to ₹23 from the previous ₹20; GST will also be applicable on this amount. This applies to cash withdrawals made via UPI at ATMs as well.
Higher charges will also apply if an ATM transaction fails due to insufficient funds in the account. The charge for transactions exceeding the free limit has been raised from 17 to 23; GST will be levied separately on this amount. This charge applies to such transactions made at both Canara Bank ATMs and ATMs of other banks.
Reduction in Green PIN generation charges
Meanwhile, the bank has reduced the charge for regenerating a Green PIN. For transactions beyond the free limit, the fee for regenerating a Green PIN has been lowered from 23 to 5. This applies to card variants such as Classic, Standard, Platinum, Business, Select, and World cards.
