ATM Rules Changed: Public sector bank reduces free transaction limit; check new charges before withdrawing cash..
Several changes are being implemented for ATM users. If you hold a salary account and use ATMs, this news is relevant to you. A public sector bank has revised the rules regarding free transactions at other banks' ATMs or cash machines for salary account holders; these changes will come into effect on October 1, 2026. Let’s find out which bank has introduced these changes.
What is the major change?
SBI has reduced the free ATM privileges available at other banks' ATMs for all variants of its Salary Package Accounts. Previously, salary account holders could perform a total of 10 free transactions per month at ATMs belonging to other banks.
However, this rule will change starting October 1. Salary account holders will now be limited to just 5 free transactions at other banks' ATMs, down from 10. Please note that this new rule will apply across all locations.
What are the charges once the limit is exceeded?
Once the free transaction limit is exhausted, you will incur extra charges for withdrawing cash or performing other operations at other banks' ATMs, as follows:
Cash withdrawal: After the 5 free transactions, a charge of ₹23 plus GST will apply to each transaction.
Non-financial transactions (such as mini-statements or balance checks): A charge of ₹11 plus GST will apply per transaction.
What are the rules for other accounts?
If you do not hold an SBI Salary Package Account—meaning you have a regular savings account or another type of account—there are no changes to the rules for you. Such customers will continue to receive the existing 5 free transactions at other banks' ATMs.
