Why have commercial gas prices gone up?

At the beginning of October, oil companies raised the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders. In Delhi, the price increased from ₹2,747.50 to ₹2,810, while in Mumbai, it rose from ₹2,701 to ₹2,764.50.

Commercial cylinders are used in hotels, restaurants, *dhabas*, catering services, and other food-related businesses. Consequently, this price hike could increase operating costs for these establishments. However, this does not necessarily mean that every restaurant will immediately raise the prices of their food items. Meanwhile, the price of the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder has not changed during October. Therefore, for now, consumers who use gas for cooking at home do not have to face any new price hikes.

Why do LPG prices change?

Oil companies review the prices of commercial and domestic LPG on the first day of every month. These prices are adjusted based on fuel costs in the international market and the exchange rate between the Indian rupee and the US dollar. However, an increase in the price of a commercial cylinder does not necessarily mean that the price of a domestic cylinder will also change.
