Bank Holiday Today: If you have any urgent bank-related work today, August 22, make sure to check the holiday status before leaving home. However, digital services such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs will continue to operate normally.

Bank Holiday Today: If you are planning to visit a bank today (August 22) to complete some urgent work, please be aware of the holiday first. You wouldn't want to arrive at the bank only to find it locked.

Public and private bank branches across the country will remain closed today (August 22). The reason is not a festival, but the fact that it is the fourth Saturday of the month. However, despite the branches being closed, most tasks related to online banking and digital payments can still be performed as usual.

Why are banks closed on August 22?

According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks observe holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, while remaining open on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays. August 22 falls on the fourth Saturday of the month; consequently, banking services for general customers will not be available at branches nationwide today.

Which tasks might be affected today?

Since the banks are closed, tasks requiring a physical visit to the branch cannot be completed today. Transactions involving cash deposits or withdrawals will not be possible. Therefore, if you have any urgent work that can only be completed by visiting a bank branch, you will have to postpone it until the next working day.

When else will banks remain closed in August?

There are several more bank holidays scheduled for the remainder of August following the 22nd. Some of these will apply nationwide, while others will be specific to certain states.

Banks will remain closed nationwide on August 23 due to it being a Sunday. On August 26, banks may remain closed in some states—particularly Kerala—on the occasion of Onam (or 'First Onam'). There will be a bank holiday in Kerala on August 27 due to Thiruvonam. Bank branches across the country will remain closed on August 30 due to it being a Sunday.

Holiday dates may vary by state depending on local festivals; therefore, it is advisable to check the local bank holiday calendar.

No impact on bill payments and UPI

Services such as mobile recharges, electricity bill payments, DTH recharges, and other online payments remain available during bank holidays. Most routine transactions continue via UPI and mobile banking. Consequently, if your task involves simply sending money, paying bills, or checking your balance, there is no need to visit a bank branch.
