Annual FASTag Toll Pass: How to make a toll pass of Rs 3000, will e-KYC be necessary.. know the answers to 5 questions

Annual FASTag Toll Pass from August 15: ₹3,000 for a Year of Toll-Free Travel on 200 National Highways
From August 15, 2025, India will roll out a new Annual FASTag Toll Pass Scheme aimed at reducing toll hassles for motorists. For a one-time payment of ₹3,000, vehicle owners will be able to travel toll-free across 200 National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Expressway toll plazas for an entire year.
The initiative is expected to significantly benefit frequent highway travelers by eliminating repeated toll payments at major NHAI toll booths, which number over 1,000 across the country. Although the scheme currently applies only to NHAI and National Expressways, the coverage is substantial enough to save both time and money for regular commuters.
Before the launch, here are five key questions and answers about the Annual FASTag Toll Pass:
1. Do You Need a New FASTag for the Annual Pass?
No. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has clarified that a new FASTag is not required to activate the annual toll pass. You can link the pass to your existing FASTag, provided it meets the following conditions:
-
The FASTag must be active.
-
e-KYC must be completed for the FASTag.
-
The FASTag should not be blacklisted and should be in working condition.
-
It should be properly affixed to the vehicle’s front windshield.
-
The FASTag must be registered in the name of the vehicle owner.
2. Will the Pass Work on a Chassis Number–Based FASTag?
No. If your FASTag is linked only to your vehicle’s chassis number (common in newly purchased vehicles), the ₹3,000 Annual Pass cannot be activated. You must first update your FASTag details with your Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) before applying for the pass.
3. How to Apply for the Annual FASTag Toll Pass?
The activation process is straightforward but slightly different from regular FASTag recharges:
-
Visit the official NHAI website or use the Rajmargyatra Mobile App.
-
Locate the link for the Annual FASTag Toll Pass.
-
Fill in the required details and make a one-time payment of ₹3,000.
-
The pass becomes active immediately and remains valid for one year from the activation date.
-
After one year, the pass can be renewed through the same platforms.
4. Can the Pass Be Transferred Between Vehicles?
No. The Annual FASTag Toll Pass is non-transferable and works only for the specific vehicle registration number it was activated on. Attempting to use it on another vehicle can lead to:
-
Blacklisting of the FASTag.
-
Permanent deactivation of the pass.
-
No refund of the ₹3,000 fee.
5. Is e-KYC Mandatory for the Annual Pass?
Yes. If your FASTag has not undergone e-KYC, you must complete it through your issuing bank before applying. Without e-KYC, the FASTag can be deactivated at any time, making the ₹3,000 pass useless. Completing e-KYC before activation is strongly recommended.

Why This Scheme Matters
For frequent highway travelers—especially transporters, logistics companies, and regular commuters—the Annual FASTag Toll Pass can lead to significant savings and smoother travel. It eliminates repeated toll deductions, reduces cash handling, and speeds up passage through toll plazas.
The launch date of August 15 is symbolic, aligning with India’s Independence Day and marking a move towards greater convenience and digital adoption in the transport sector.
While the scheme is currently limited to NHAI and National Expressway toll plazas, the potential for expansion could make it even more valuable in the future.
