Railway Added Extra Coaches: In response to the increased congestion caused by IndiGo's problems, the Railways immediately responded by adding extra coaches and special trains. This has made long-distance travel much easier.

Railway Added Extra Coaches: Passenger distress is currently a major issue in the country. Thousands of people are stranded after IndiGo's flight services were suspended, leaving them with limited long-distance travel options. The prices of other flights are skyrocketing. In such a situation, the Railways have responded promptly. Effective December 6, 2025, 116 extra coaches have been added to 37 trains across the network.

This has increased seating capacity. Furthermore, the Railways has further increased capacity with 114 additional trips and launched four special trains. This will now better manage the increased pressure on trains due to flight cancellations, providing passengers with an alternative option for long-distance travel. Southern Railway Added the Most Coaches

Southern Railway has added the most coaches among Indian Railways. Southern Railway alone has added chair car and sleeper class coaches to 18 trains. This arrangement has been implemented since December 6th, providing immediate relief to travelers traveling in South India. Ticket demand has increased sharply in the past few days, and these new coaches will now provide some relief.

Northern Railway Also Increased Capacity

Regarding Northern Railway, passenger pressure has also been increasing here, and as a result, NR has added 3AC and chair car coaches to eight trains. These changes have been implemented immediately. This has increased seating capacity on important routes to Delhi, Punjab, Jammu, and the Northeast. Trains like the Jammu Tawi Rajdhani, Dibrugarh Rajdhani, Chandigarh Shatabdi, and Amritsar Shatabdi have been directly added with new coaches. A timeline for coach additions has also been released, providing an alternative for passengers struggling with flight availability.

Northern Railway has increased the number of coaches on these trains for passenger convenience.

Train No. 12425/26 Jammu Tawi Rajdhani train will add a 3rd AC coach.
Train No. 12424/23 Dibrugarh Rajdhani will add a 3rd AC coach.
Train No. 12045/46 Chandigarh Shatabdi train will add a chair car coach.
Train No. 12030/29 Amritsar Shatabdi train will add a chair car coach.

Extra coaches have been added to these trains as well.

The Railways have also implemented seating increases on the New Delhi to Jammu Tawi and back route. An additional 3rd AC coach is being added to the 12425 New Delhi to Jammu Tawi train from December 6th to December 11th. The same additional facility will be available on the 12426 Jammu Tawi to New Delhi train from December 5th to December 12th. This will significantly increase the chances of getting a confirmed seat for those traveling in both directions.

Similarly, the Rajdhani route has also been expanded. The 12424 New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani will add an additional 3rd AC coach from December 6th to 11th. The 12423 Dibrugarh-Delhi Rajdhani will also run with the same extra coach from December 8th to 13th. This means that passengers traveling to the Northeast will also have more options during this peak travel window.

For the Shatabdi route, train number 12029 New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi will feature an extra chair car on December 6th and 7th. The 12030 Amritsar-New Delhi Shatabdi will also feature the same arrangement on the same two days. This will help handle the increased demand on the Delhi-Punjab corridor.

Four special trains launched.

Four special trains have also been announced. Vande Bharat Special from Gorakhpur to Anand Vihar, New Delhi to Jammu route, New Delhi – Mumbai Central Superfast Special, and Hazrat Nizamuddin – Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Special trains are being started immediately.
