Alert for LPG users! Your gas connection may be cut off—check the new rules now
LPG Connection Big Update: A major change in LPG regulations has come into effect starting May 1st. Now, individuals holding dual gas connections may be required to surrender their LPG connection; otherwise, their gas supply will be suspended. Get all the details here.
LPG Connection Big Update: The impact of ongoing tensions in the Middle East is becoming visible across several nations. From LPG cylinders to everyday essentials, everything has fallen victim to rising inflation. The supply of gas and oil is being disrupted, and the repercussions of this are being felt in India. In light of issues such as rising gas prices and excessive bookings, the government has tightened the rules regarding LPG booking and distribution.
Rules for Holders of Dual Connections
It is important to note that these new rules have been implemented nationwide as of May 1st. Under the new regulations, if your household already possesses a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection alongside an LPG cylinder connection, you may be required to surrender your LPG connection. The government asserts that households already equipped with a piped gas facility do not require an LPG cylinder. If you fail to surrender your connection in such a scenario, the oil companies reserve the right to suspend your gas supply.
e-KYC Now Mandatory
Most importantly, Aadhaar-based e-KYC has now been made mandatory for all LPG users. Users whose Aadhaar verification remains incomplete will not be eligible to receive cylinder refills. However, please note that users who have already completed their e-KYC process are not required to undergo this procedure again.
Delivery Only After OTP Verification
For gas cylinder deliveries, OTP verification is now being made mandatory in several regions. At the time of delivery, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number, which you must provide to the delivery personnel. The gas cylinder will be handed over to you only after you have shared this OTP.
Existing Users Must Also Verify
According to reports, households that last obtained an LPG refill prior to June 2025 may be classified as potentially inactive users. Such users will be required to complete their e-KYC before booking a new cylinder.
Why did the government take these decisions?
Oil companies state that the objectives behind these regulations include:
- Primarily, preventing duplicate connections.
- Curbing the misuse of subsidized cylinders.
- Additionally, deactivating dormant accounts.
- Most importantly, preventing the hoarding of domestic cylinders.
What should users do?
If you are an LPG user, you should complete these tasks as soon as possible:
- First, visit your distributor to complete your e-KYC.
- If your mobile number is not updated, get it updated.
- Also, verify whether your Aadhaar is linked to your bank account.
- Deactivate any duplicate or inactive connections.
- Also, find out whether a PNG connection is available in your area.
