AI Revolutionizes Education in Jodhpur: Report Cards Generated in Seconds Across 1,000 Schools and 70,000 Answer Sheets
In Jodhpur, with the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the answer sheets of 70,000 students across 1,000 schools were evaluated in mere seconds, resulting in the creation of subject-wise report cards. Let’s delve into the full story…
A news story regarding education has emerged from Jodhpur that could potentially transform the landscape of schools in the near future. Here, evaluating answer sheets no longer takes weeks; instead, every student’s report card is generated within just a few seconds. This remarkable feat has been made possible through the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Across more than 1,000 schools in the district, the answer sheets of over 70,000 students—ranging from grades 6 to 9—were evaluated using an AI application, resulting in a clear, unbiased, and subject-specific assessment for every child.
According to media reports, Jeevraj Singh—an 8th-grade student attending a government school—serves as a prime example of this initiative. His report indicates that he is “proficient” in understanding statistics, and possesses a strong grasp of ancient civilizations as well as constitutional rights and duties. Conversely, his comprehension of stories and poetry falls under the “improving” category. Similarly, his understanding of number systems in mathematics and natural resources in science is also classified as “improving.”
How This AI System Works
Now, teachers simply scan the answer sheets using the AI application. Upon scanning, the app reads the answers, assigns scores, and simultaneously generates a subject-wise analytical report. While evaluating a single answer sheet previously took 5 to 7 minutes, the same task is now accomplished in a matter of seconds. A particularly noteworthy feature is that this system analyzes not only Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) but also written, descriptive answers. This marks the first instance in the country where subjective answers have been evaluated using AI on such a large scale.
As part of this initiative, over 300,000 assessments were generated across five core subjects: English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. While generating such reports previously took weeks, distinct analytical reports for students, teachers, principals, and schools are now being prepared within just three days.
A Major Aid for Teachers
The AI-generated reports display dozens of topics for each subject, rated on a scale of 0 to 10. Low scores indicate a need for “immediate improvement,” whereas high scores signify a strong performance. This enables teachers to focus directly on the specific topics where students are lagging behind—a strategy being termed “targeted improvement.”
Uniform Assessment, Free from Bias
District Education Officers note that, in the past, evaluation methods varied across different schools, leading to a lack of uniformity. Now, thanks to AI, the assessment process is standardized and error-free. This clearly highlights learning gaps and enhances accountability across the entire educational system.
Success Achieved in the First Phase
In October 2025, during the initial phase of the project, this initiative was piloted with over 3,000 students across 54 government-run English-medium schools. Following the success achieved there, the program was subsequently rolled out across the entire district. Currently, teachers and principals across 15 blocks are undergoing training to ensure they fully understand and can effectively utilize this new system.
Who Initiated This Initiative?
This project was launched last year by the then-District Collector, Gaurav Agarwal. It is now being advanced under the leadership of the current District Collector, Alok Ranjan, with the collaborative support of the District Council CEO, the Education Department, DIET, Block Education Officers, various schools, and thousands of teachers.
