Whenever there is talk of top services in the country, the name of IAS definitely comes at the top. Every year lakhs of candidates prepare for the UPSC exam, but only a few of them are successful in this exam. Some of the successful candidates go to IAS, some to IPS and some to IFS or some other service. Let us tell you today what is the provision regarding transfer in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), which is considered to be the top in the country. On what basis are the officers transferred.

When and why the transfer?

Generally, an IAS officer is given a chance to serve in a district for at least two years. But in case of any special situation like deteriorating law and order, administrative disagreement or political reasons, the officer can be transferred even before that.

According to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the process of transfer of IAS is done with the consent of the central and state governments. Usually the transfer is done by the state government, but if the matter is related to the central government, then the final decision is taken by the center.

Where is the training?

Let us tell you that after passing the UPSC exam, IAS candidates are sent to Mussoorie for training. After taking training here, when IAS officers reach their cadre state, they have to serve the probation period. Where they have to work under the collector.

How much salary is given?

After the probation period is over, the state government posts the officer in the districts. In such a situation, they have to work on posts like Joint Magistrate, SDM. Initially, an IAS officer gets a salary of Rs 56,100 under the 7th Pay Commission. Apart from this, they are also provided with various facilities. These include DA, HRA, TA etc.
