Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0, the Modi government is rapidly working on an affordable rental housing scheme aimed at poor and low-income families living in cities. The objective of this scheme is to provide a better lifestyle and secure accommodation to those who migrate to big cities in search of work but are unable to live in permanent housing due to high rents or financial constraints.

This scheme is specifically designed for migrants and daily wage earners who contribute significantly to urban economic activities but struggle to rent secure housing due to low incomes.

Under the PM Urban Housing Scheme, clean and safe housing at low rents will be provided to laborers, street vendors, and working women who have come to cities seeking employment.

**Who will benefit from the scheme?**
Families belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low-Income Group (LIG).

People who have migrated from other states, cities, or villages in search of employment.

Laborers working in industrial areas and at construction sites.

Street vendors, auto-rickshaw drivers, and domestic helpers.

Women employed in jobs or small businesses in cities, as well as contractual employees.

**Eligibility criteria for the scheme**
Neither the applicant nor any family member should own a permanent house anywhere in the country.
The applicant must possess a valid Aadhaar card.
The applicant's family should not have availed benefits from any other central or state government housing scheme in the last 20 years.

**Equipped with modern amenities**
The government will not merely rent out rooms; it will also develop the necessary infrastructure for daily living within these housing complexes. This includes ensuring 24-hour water supply, sewage and drainage systems, and a clean environment. Additionally, the complexes will feature paved roads, street lights, community centers, primary health centers, and crèches for working mothers. Provisions will also be made for small shops and commercial activities within the premises to cater to daily needs.

Construction to be Undertaken via PPP Models
The Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) scheme will be implemented through two primary methods. The first involves converting existing, vacant government-owned housing into ARH units through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). The second method entails the construction, operation, and maintenance of rental housing by private or public entities on their own land.
