The Department of Food and Public Distribution has issued a major update for ration cardholders. There is no longer any need to make multiple visits to government offices to add a new family member, remove a name (due to marriage or other reasons), or modify any other information on your ration card. This process has been significantly simplified through the 'Anna Sahayata Seva' (Food Assistance Service) under the Central Government’s 'Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana'. You can now register your requests or grievances from the comfort of your home via WhatsApp or an IVRS toll-free call.

How to apply using 'Anna Sahayata'
According to information shared by the government, you can follow the simple steps outlined below to make changes to your ration card.

First, access the 'Anna Sahayata' platform and select the option related to ration card grievances. Next, navigate to the 'Ration Card Modification' section and choose the option to add or remove a beneficiary as needed. Select the appropriate option to register your request; once submitted, the details of your grievance will be recorded, and the update process will begin.

Access services from home via WhatsApp and IVRS helplines
To provide convenience to citizens, the Food Department has introduced both digital and call-based communication channels. You can register your request directly via WhatsApp by sending a message from your mobile phone to 9868200445. Alternatively, those without internet access—or those using a standard phone—can call the IVRS toll-free number 14457 to register their request through the IVRS system.

Documents required for ration card modifications
Once the verification process begins following the registration of your request, you will need to have the following documents ready:

To add a new member: A birth certificate (for a newborn) or a marriage certificate (for a new bride), along with proof of residence. To remove a member: A death certificate or documentation showing a change of address following marriage. Additionally, you will need identity proof for both the head of the family and the concerned family member.
