Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that the ‘Aapka Paisa Aapka Adhikar’ (Your Money, Your Right) initiative aims to ensure that every citizen can reclaim their rightful money, as thousands of crores of rupees lie unclaimed in Indian banks, insurance, and mutual fund companies. Under this initiative, unclaimed funds worth ₹2,000 crore have already been returned to their rightful owners.
In a post on the social media platform LinkedIn, PM Modi said, “This is an opportunity to transform a forgotten financial asset into a new opportunity. Let us all work together to build a transparent, economically empowered, and inclusive India.”

₹9,000 crore in unclaimed dividends
Recently, at an event, PM Modi had said, “Indian banks have ₹78,000 crore of our own citizens' money lying unclaimed. Insurance companies have approximately ₹14,000 crore lying unclaimed. Mutual fund companies have approximately ₹3,000 crore, and ₹9,000 crore in dividends are also lying unclaimed.”

In his post, PM Modi said that these facts have surprised many people.

'Hard-earned savings and investments'
PM Modi explained, “Ultimately, these assets represent the hard-earned savings and investments of countless families. To rectify this, the ‘Aapka Paisa Aapka Adhikar’ initiative was launched in October 2025. It aims to ensure that every citizen can reclaim what rightfully belongs to them.”
To make the process of tracking and claiming funds easy and transparent, dedicated portals have been created.

'Facilitation camps organized in 477 districts.'
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has the UDGAM portal for unclaimed bank deposits and balances; the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has the Bima Bharosa portal for unclaimed insurance policy money; The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has a ‘Mitra’ portal for unclaimed amounts in mutual funds, and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs provides the IEPFA portal for unpaid dividends and unclaimed shares.

Prime Minister Modi stated, “I am happy to share that by December 2025, facilitation camps will have been organized in 477 districts across rural and urban India.  Emphasis has been placed on covering remote areas. Through the combined efforts of all stakeholders, especially the government, regulatory bodies, banks, and other financial institutions, approximately ₹2,000 crore has already been returned to the rightful owners.”

‘This campaign will be further expanded.’
The Prime Minister further added that this campaign will be expanded in the coming days. He said, “To achieve this, I request your help with the following: Check if you or your family have any unclaimed deposits, insurance money, dividends, or investments, visit the portals I have mentioned, and utilize the facilitation camps in your district.”
