If you're considering updating your Aadhaar card, you'll now have to pay more. The fees for updating demographic, biometric, and document information related to Aadhaar have been increased, effective Wednesday, October 1st. According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), these new fees will be applicable until September 30, 2028. They will then be reviewed again in October 2028.

₹75 for demographic and ₹125 for biometric updates

According to UIDAI, Aadhaar holders will now have to spend more on demographic and biometric updates.

The fee for demographic updates (such as name, address, date of birth, mobile number, or email) will now be ₹75. Previously, it was ₹50. If this update is done along with a biometric update, there will be no additional charge.

Biometric updates (fingerprint, iris, or photo) will now cost ₹125. This fee may increase to ₹150 from October 2028.

Document updates, i.e., submitting ID proof and address proof, will be free on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2026. This will now cost ₹75 at the enrollment center, up from ₹50 previously.

Aadhaar printout (via eKYC or other tools). ₹40 for the first phase and ₹50 for the second phase.

Free updates for children
UIDAI has made biometric updates free for certain age groups to encourage timely updating for children.

The first mandatory biometric update for children aged 5 to 7 years is free.

Children aged 7 to 15 years are normally charged ₹125, but this fee has been waived until September 30, 2026.

The first mandatory biometric update for adolescents aged 15 to 17 years is free.

This step has been taken to reduce pending updates for children.

Home Enrollment, ₹700 to be paid
If someone cannot visit an enrollment center, UIDAI will provide services at home. New charges have been set for this. A single home visit will cost ₹700 (including GST). If multiple people wish to avail the service at the same address, ₹700 will be charged from the first person and ₹350 from each subsequent member.

What does this mean for Aadhaar holders?
Most Aadhaar-related services will now cost more. Except for some cases involving children, all services, whether demographic, biometric, or document updates, will cost more than before. With these new rules, which come into effect on October 1, 2025, those who need to make changes to their Aadhaar will need to consider the increased fees.
