Why is it necessary to update the mobile number on the Aadhaar card?

To use Aadhaar-related services online, your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar. This is because, during online transactions, OTP (one-time password) is sent to the registered number for identity verification. If your mobile number linked to Aadhaar is no longer in use or you want to change it, you can easily update it through the correct procedure. Keeping your mobile number updated ensures the smooth use of many digital Aadhaar services.

Will the mobile number on the Aadhaar card be updated online?

You cannot change the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card directly online, as biometric verification is required. To update the number, you will have to visit the nearest Aadhaar enrollment center or schedule an appointment through the official UIDAI portal.

Follow these steps to book an appointment online:

Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI website and select your preferred language to make navigation easier.

Step 2: Go to “My Aadhaar” > “Get Aadhaar” > “Book an Appointment”.

Step 3: Type your city or location and click on ‘Proceed to Book Appointment’.

Step 4: Enter your current mobile number and the CAPTCHA code shown, then click on “Generate OTP”.

Step 5: Once you receive the OTP, enter it and select “Verify OTP”.

Step 6: Fill in the following information as per your Aadhaar:

Full Name (as per Aadhaar)

Date of Birth

Application Type

State

City

Preferred Aadhaar Seva Kendra

Step 7: Select the data field you want to change—in this case select “Update Mobile Number”.

Step 8: Click on “Next” to choose a convenient date and time for your appointment.

Step 9: Check all the entered information carefully and click on “Submit” to confirm your appointment.

Step 10: Visit the selected Aadhaar Seva Kendra on your chosen date and time and wait for your turn.

Step 11: Officials at the center will do biometric verification and update your mobile number in the Aadhaar system.

Step 12: You will have to pay a service fee of ₹50 for the update process. A receipt will be issued, which will contain a URN (Update Request Number). Using this URN, you can track the status of your mobile number update online.
