UIDAI Revises Charges for PVC Aadhaar Card Amid Rising Production Costs

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has revised the fee for ordering an Aadhaar PVC card, increasing it from ₹50 to ₹75. The updated charge came into effect in January 2026 and applies to all online requests made through the official UIDAI platform or the mAadhaar mobile application.

According to UIDAI, the ₹25 hike has been introduced to offset the rising costs associated with raw materials, advanced security printing, and Speed Post delivery. Despite the increase, the PVC Aadhaar card continues to remain a preferred option for citizens seeking a durable, water-resistant, and wallet-friendly alternative to the traditional paper Aadhaar letter.

Why the Aadhaar PVC Card Remains Popular

The Aadhaar PVC card is not just a plastic version of the Aadhaar letter. It is a high-security identity document designed for long-term use and easy portability. Its compact size and robust build make it suitable for everyday use without the risk of damage.

UIDAI has emphasized that the PVC version offers better durability compared to the paper Aadhaar letter, which is prone to wear and tear over time.

Security Features of the Official Aadhaar PVC Card

UIDAI has equipped the PVC Aadhaar card with multiple security features to prevent duplication and misuse. These include:

  • A secure QR code that allows instant offline verification

  • Hologram and microtext for enhanced authenticity

  • Ghost image of the Aadhaar holder

  • Guilloche patterns, commonly used in currency and secure documents

These features ensure that the PVC Aadhaar card meets high security standards and remains tamper-resistant.

Step-by-Step Guide to Apply for Aadhaar PVC Card Online

Ordering the Aadhaar PVC card is a simple and fully online process. Applicants can place their request either through the UIDAI website or the official mAadhaar app.

Follow these steps to apply online:

  1. Visit the official UIDAI portal and choose the Aadhaar PVC card service

  2. Enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID (VID)

  3. Fill in the captcha code and click on Send OTP

  4. Verify your identity using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number

  5. Select the ‘Order Aadhaar PVC Card’ option

  6. Review your personal details carefully

  7. Proceed to the payment gateway and pay ₹75 using UPI, Net Banking, or Debit/Credit card

Once the payment is completed successfully, UIDAI processes the request and prints the card.

Delivery Timeline and Dispatch Details

UIDAI usually prints the Aadhaar PVC card within five working days. After printing, the card is dispatched via India Post Speed Post, ensuring secure and trackable delivery to the registered address.

Applicants can also track the status of their Aadhaar PVC card order online using the service request number.

UIDAI Warns Against Private PVC Card Vendors

UIDAI has issued a clear warning to citizens regarding unauthorised private vendors offering Aadhaar PVC printing services. Cards printed by local plastic card shops or private websites are not considered valid.

Only Aadhaar PVC cards ordered directly through UIDAI’s official channels are legally valid and secure. Citizens are advised to avoid third-party services, even if they claim faster delivery or lower prices.

Aadhaar Formats Available in 2026

Currently, Aadhaar is available in three official formats:

  • Aadhaar Letter (Paper format – free of cost)

  • e-Aadhaar (Digital PDF version)

  • Aadhaar PVC Card (Paid, durable version)

While the paper Aadhaar remains free, the PVC card has emerged as the preferred choice in 2026 due to its durability, security features, and convenience.
