UIDAI is also testing a new app that will enable app-to-app verification.
The government is soon going to implement a new rule related to Aadhaar. After this, places like hotels, event organizers, and similar institutions will be completely prohibited from taking physical photocopies of Aadhaar cards and storing them. The government believes that paper-based Aadhaar verification is not only against the law but also poses a major threat to privacy.
UIDAI has approved a new framework for this. Now, any institution that wants to conduct offline Aadhaar verification must first register with UIDAI. After that, they will be able to use QR-code-based or app-based verification. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar confirmed that the rule has been approved and will be officially notified soon.
New process for hotels and event organizers
Under the new Aadhaar rule, hotels, event venues, organizers, and similar institutions will get access to a secure API after registering with UIDAI. Through this, they can verify Aadhaar digitally without handling or storing any physical copies.
UIDAI’s goal is clear — to eliminate paper copies and reduce the risk of Aadhaar data leaks.
New Aadhaar app for offline verification
UIDAI is testing a new app that will enable app-to-app verification. With this process, a live connection to the central Aadhaar server will not be required every time.
This app will be useful at airports, retail stores (where age verification is required), event venues, and more. It will also allow users to update address proof and add family members who do not have mobile phones.
Solution to verification downtime
Currently, Aadhaar verification often gets stuck when the server goes down. The new system will eliminate this issue. With QR code and app-based verification, the process will continue smoothly even during technical disruptions.
