Aadhaar New Rule: Hotels cannot take photocopies of Aadhaar cards! UIDAI has introduced a new rule...
Aadhaar App-to-App Verification: When you stay at a hotel, attend an event, or become part of an organization, you are often asked for a photocopy of your Aadhaar card. Aadhaar contains details such as your name, address, and date of birth, which are then shared with these hotel operators, event organizers, and other entities. Under the current Aadhaar Act, such practices are illegal. To prevent misuse of this information, the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is introducing a new rule.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has stated that a new rule will soon be published to prevent hotels, organizers, or institutions from taking photocopies of customers' Aadhaar cards and storing them physically. Kumar said that the authority has approved a new regulation.
What is this new rule?
According to the rules, it mandates registration for hotels, event organizers, or other institutions that require Aadhaar-based verification. The top official said that this will give them access to a new technology that will help verify an individual by scanning a QR code or connecting through the new Aadhaar app that is being developed.
The new verification process will also address the problems caused by the downtime of intermediary servers connecting to the central Aadhaar database, which currently disrupts many operations.
Aadhaar Verification via API
Institutions seeking offline verification will get access to an API (Application Programming Interface) through which they can update their systems for Aadhaar verification.
App-to-app verification will facilitate offline verification without compromising people's privacy, without the risk of their Aadhaar data being leaked for misuse, and without the use of paper.
How long will it take for full implementation?
This new app is expected to bring the Aadhaar authentication service in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which will be fully implemented in 18 months. This app will also allow users to update their address proof documents on the new app and add other family members who do not have a mobile phone to the same app.
