The Delhi government has made it mandatory to provide an Aadhaar card number to avail of electricity subsidies. To receive the subsidy, consumers must share their Aadhaar number with their electricity distribution companies and the Delhi government. This will enable the government to identify electricity consumers receiving the subsidy and determine how many electricity meters are registered under a single individual's name for the purpose of claiming the subsidy. Should the government decide to transfer subsidy funds directly into bank accounts in the future, an individual would be eligible to receive the subsidy for only one meter. Currently, the subsidy is issued based on the 'CA number' (Consumer Account number) associated with an electricity meter.

**KYC Mandatory for Electricity Subsidy**
Following approval from the Lieutenant Governor, the Delhi government’s Power Department has issued a notification making KYC (Know Your Customer) mandatory for electricity subsidies. Consumers are now required to share their identity-related information with their electricity distribution companies and the government. The primary objective of this move is to ensure transparency in the subsidy distribution process and prevent fraudulent claims. According to the Delhi government, this system will eliminate the burden of extensive paperwork and multiple layers of documentation, ensuring that the benefits of the government scheme reach only eligible and genuine consumers.

**Reason Behind the Decision**
The Delhi government directly funds the subsidies provided through electricity distribution companies. This measure has been taken to ensure the transparent utilization of funds drawn from the public exchequer. According to administrative sources, this data verification process will clarify whether an individual or a family is improperly claiming multiple subsidies across different electricity meters. Currently, the subsidy amount is deducted directly from the electricity bill. If, in the future, the government decides to transfer the subsidy amount directly into the consumer's bank account, the subsidy will be limited to a single meter per person.

**How to Complete the KYC Process**
Consumers can register their details online by visiting the official web portal of the Delhi government or their respective electricity distribution company.
If a consumer does not currently possess a valid identity document, they may apply for one and provide the receipt or enrollment ID as proof.

 Here is the subsidy slab:
0 to 200 units: 100 percent subsidy, meaning electricity is completely free and the bill is zero rupees. 201 to 400 units: A 50 percent discount is provided on the consumption of the first 200 units, up to a maximum of 800 rupees. Above 400 units: No subsidy is provided for consumption exceeding 400 units, and the entire bill must be paid at standard tariff rates.
