UIDAI Free Biometrics update in Aadhaar: If your child is between 5 and 7 years of age and you have not yet updated the biometric details in his Aadhaar, then do not delay now. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has once again appealed to all parents and guardians to complete the mandatory biometric update (MBU) of children on time. This is not only necessary to maintain the validity of Aadhaar, but it will also prove helpful in getting your child the benefit of many important services and facilities.

Aadhaar will be updated for free.
When a child crosses the age of 5 years, it is necessary to update fingerprints, iris scan, and a new photo in their Aadhaar. This is called Mandatory Biometric Update. The special thing is that UIDAI is providing this service free for children between 5 and 7 years. That is, if you get your child's biometric updated during this age, then you will not have to spend a single rupee. But if this update is done after the age of 7 years, then a fixed fee of ₹100 will be charged for this.

Why is it necessary to update Aadhaar?

According to UIDAI, in the initial enrollment of the child's Aadhaar, only the photo, name, date of birth, gender, address, and documents are taken. But fingerprints and iris scans are not taken before 5 years, because at that age these biometric features are not fully developed. This is the reason why a biometric update is considered necessary after the age of 5 years.

Aadhaar can be cancelled!
If, for some reason, you have not updated your child's Aadhaar even after the age of 7 years, then Aadhaar can also be deactivated. This process is already applicable under the current rules of UIDAI. That is, if the biometric details are not updated, then in the future the child may face problems in availing benefits ranging from school admission to scholarship and government schemes.

The message is going to parents.
UIDAI said that now SMS are being sent to the registered mobile numbers of such children whose biometric updates are pending. Parents will get a message from UIDAI on their mobile, in which they will be advised to go to the nearest Aadhaar service center and get it updated.

This small step of biometric update can open many big doors for the child. Be it admission in school, registration for a competitive exam, or the benefit of the government's Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes - Aadhaar is required everywhere and that too completely updated.

UIDAI says that this is not just a technical process, but an important step taken towards making the identity of children strong and reliable. "From Enrolment to Opportunity – Aadhaar Empowers Every Step" means from enrolment to opportunities, Aadhaar empowers children at every step.
