Railway Rules: If your ticket is confirmed and your plans are suddenly canceled, you can transfer your train ticket to someone else's name. Learn the rules for this.

Millions of people travel by train every day in the country. Indian Railways is the fourth largest rail network in the world, and more than 13,000 trains run daily. In such circumstances, even small details related to the ticket are very important for passengers.

Sometimes, despite a confirmed ticket, a family member or friend is unable to travel. In such situations, people wonder whether the ticket can be transferred to someone else's name. The Railways has established rules for this.

According to Indian Railway rules, a ticket cannot be transferred directly to someone else's name. However, in certain circumstances, a passenger can transfer their confirmed ticket. This facility is generally available to family members.

If a passenger wishes to transfer a ticket, they must submit an application at the railway counter at least 24 hours before the journey. The application must be in writing and must be accompanied by proof of identity.

Tickets can only be transferred to family members. These include spouses, parents, children, or siblings. For this, the passenger must submit a written application to the station master or the relevant railway official at least 24 hours before the journey.

The application must include the name of the passenger who originally held the ticket and the person to whom the ticket is being transferred, the train name and number, the travel date, and seat details. A copy of each passenger's valid identity card, such as an Aadhaar card, voter ID, or passport, must be attached.

The application must also be signed by the person in whose name the ticket is registered. If this process is not completed within the time limit and the formalities are completed, the railway will not grant permission for ticket transfer. Keep in mind that even for online tickets you will have to go to the railway counter.
