A question was raised about privacy on Instagram's Map feature, Meta gave clarification

Instagram Map feature is currently in discussion. This feature has been described as a threat to privacy. At the same time, now Meta has also clarified on this issue. Let's know.
Instagram added the Map feature to its platform a few days ago. Through this feature, users can share recent locations. Along with this, you can also see location based content. However, now a big uproar has arisen regarding this function. It is being described as a big threat to privacy.
Serious allegation made
According to media reports, Instagram users said on social media platforms like Thread that due to the Map feature in the app, they are seeing their location. This has put privacy at risk. This can be very dangerous. This can lead to breach of privacy.
Location turned on automatically
Several reports said that users claimed on social media that despite location access being turned off in Instagram, location sharing was on in the app's settings, which could reveal privacy.
On behalf of Meta, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said that users are confused. They feel that their location which they are seeing on their map is also visible to others. This is not so. 'Double Consent' is required to share location. Only after this the location is shared.
He further said that we are re-checking everything. So far it seems that users are completely confused and believe that if their own location is visible in the map, then others are also seeing it. We are testing it, so that anyone's location can be shared without their permission.
Let us tell you that the map feature was rolled out on Wednesday this week. This feature was introduced to improve communication with friends. This function is currently available in select countries. It will be released worldwide in the coming months.
