Fake Currency: Home printers are typically used to print, scan, or photocopy documents and photos. However, a man used a home printer and other equipment to print counterfeit currency. Bhopal police have arrested this 21-year-old man.
During a search of his home, police found counterfeit currency worth over ₹2 lakh, a computer, a printer, a punching machine, note-cutting dies, glue, screen plates, a cutter, special paper, pencils, a steel scale, a light box, and a dot-stepping file, all of which were seized. The accused previously worked at a printing press.
This is how the truth was revealed.
Additional DCP Zone 2 Gautam Solanki said that on November 14, police received information that a young man wearing a black shirt was roaming around the Nizamuddin area with fake 500 rupee notes and attempting to circulate them in the market. Police laid a trap and detained the young man. He initially identified himself as Vivek Yadav, a resident of Karond, Bhopal. Upon searching, 23 fake 500 rupee notes were recovered, which looked exactly like real notes. After rigorous interrogation, he was exposed.
Trained by Watching Online Videos
When police checked his mobile phone, they found numerous videos on counterfeiting. He told police that he learned the entire process of making counterfeit notes by repeatedly watching these videos. To make the notes appear authentic, he studied the process in detail by watching the videos numerous times. He also had experience working in a printing press, which gave him an understanding of the correct color combinations and cutting. He ordered special paper online, cut the sheets with a blade, and marked them with a pencil.
He then pasted the RBI strip onto another piece of paper and joined the two sheets together. After printing the design, he cut the paper to resemble a 500 rupee note and printed the currency value and watermarks, creating the counterfeit notes.
Purchases with Counterfeit Notes
According to the police, Yadav has circulated counterfeit notes worth lakhs of rupees so far. After making the notes, he went to different areas away from his rented house, buying small items with the counterfeit 500 rupee notes and collecting real notes in exchange. During interrogation, he confessed to circulating counterfeit notes worth 5-6 lakh rupees in the market. During a search of his house, the police recovered 428 counterfeit 500 rupee notes, worth 225,500 rupees.
