EPFO recently updated its official website, causing temporary login issues for both the website and the app; however, the updated version of the website has now been launched. The portal for checking PF balances had also been shut down but is now back online. Meanwhile, incidents of fraud involving the names of EPFO and the UMANG app have come to light. Consequently, EPFO has issued a warning to its members, urging them to exercise caution.

EPFO has reported the presence of fake apps on the internet masquerading as UMANG and EPFO apps; these often look identical to the genuine ones. Fraudsters and cybercriminals can use these fake apps to steal members' personal and banking details.

**Use Official Websites and Apps**
EPFO has clarified that members should use the official website or the official UMANG app for any PF-related tasks. Be careful when selecting the official app. Accidentally downloading a fake app and entering your UAN, OTP, or bank details could expose your information to cybercriminals.

**How to Identify a Fake App?**
You need to be vigilant to identify fake apps, as they often closely resemble genuine ones, making it difficult to distinguish between them. Before downloading an app, pay attention to details such as the spelling of the app's name, the number of downloads, and user reviews. Use only the links provided on the official EPFO website to download the app; do not download an app by clicking on an APK file sent by someone else.

If you have accidentally downloaded a fake app and entered any information, uninstall it immediately. Afterward, visit the EPFO website and change your password right away. Contact the EPFO helpline or your bank if necessary.
