A Golden Opportunity to Buy Gold! Prices Drop by Up to 20%, Crowds Flock to Showrooms
Ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali, a decline in gold and silver prices in Jaipur has led to an increase in footfall at jewelry showrooms. However, due to the high cost of gold, people—especially families preparing for weddings—are purchasing smaller quantities of jewelry.
The impact of the drop in gold and silver prices is visible in the market ahead of the festival of Dhanteras. In the 'Pink City' of Jaipur, prices for gold and silver have fallen by nearly 20 percent. As a result, jewelry showrooms are once again bustling with customers. Many believe this is a "golden opportunity" to buy gold, as prices are expected to surge again between the festival of Dhanteras and the upcoming wedding season.
Although prices have decreased by up to 20 percent, they remain largely out of reach for many middle-class families. Customers visiting the showrooms note that while they have received some relief, they are still purchasing less jewelry than they might otherwise have. Most of those visiting the showrooms are individuals with weddings or other significant functions to attend.
Market Revitalized by Falling Gold and Silver Prices
In Jaipur, 22-carat gold is priced at 1.33 lakh rupees per 10 grams, while silver is trading at approximately two lakh rupees per kilogram. Even though these prices remain exceptionally high, customers are unwilling to compromise on quality by opting for lower-carat jewelry; they continue to insist on 22-carat gold. Shoppers have indicated that for this year's Dhanteras, they plan to make purchases based on their personal preferences, requirements, and budget.
Are customers waiting for gold prices to drop even further? Gunjan Soni, who runs the MB Sons Jewellers showroom on MI Road in Jaipur, states that despite the drop in prices, some people are still waiting, hoping that rates might fall even further in the coming days. According to him, there is absolutely no interest among customers in 9-karat gold jewellery; people prefer 22-karat jewellery due to its higher purity.
He further notes that there has been no increase in the sale of gold coins, as people generally purchase jewellery only when they have a specific need for it. According to Gunjan Soni, the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has had no significant impact, as most people buy gold primarily for weddings or other essential requirements.
