A gift from the Railways to passengers! Train fares to become cheaper starting January 1st.
Important news for those who travel by train: starting from the New Year, the Railways is set to revise ticket fares for certain trains, which may result in passengers spending less when booking their tickets.
Trains are an affordable mode of transport, making them a popular choice for many. Passengers can book tickets according to their specific needs and budget. If you frequently travel by train, you might find some relief in ticket costs over the coming months.
According to reports, fares for several trains could be reduced. This raises the question: why are these fares being lowered, and what is the reason behind it?
Indian Railways has decided to reclassify 18 'superfast' trains, removing their 'superfast' status and shifting them to the 'mail/express' category. In other words, the 'superfast' designation is being dropped for these trains, meaning passengers will no longer have to pay a 'superfast surcharge' when booking tickets. This is why passengers may see a reduction in their travel costs. A key question remains: exactly how much of a discount can passengers expect on their tickets?
Will the train numbers change?
According to the information available, the existing numbers for these trains will be replaced by new ones. If you travel on these trains, you will need to pay close attention to the train numbers moving forward.
