A big gift from UIDAI! Blue Aadhaar updates for children aged 7-15 will now be free; learn how to avail the free service.
UIDAI has made Aadhaar biometric updates for children aged 7-15 completely free for one year. Parents will now be able to update their MBUs without any cost. This move will facilitate the maintenance of accurate records for their children and ensure seamless access to Aadhaar-related services.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has partnered with Behavioral Insights Limited (BIT), a research organization, to simplify the process of updating Aadhaar biometrics for children. This partnership will focus on improving the mandatory biometric updates (MBUs) that every child is required to complete between the ages of 5 and 15. These updates involve the acquisition of new fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs.
Biometric Updates Made Free for Children Ages 5 to 17
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has waived all fees for mandatory biometric updates (MBU-1) for children aged 5 to 17. This facility will be effective from October 1, 2025, and will remain in effect for a full year. This move will help alleviate financial concerns for parents and encourage them to complete the MBU within the stipulated time.
How much does it cost to update a Blue/Baal Aadhaar?
The first and second MBU (Mandatory Biometric Update) at ages 5-7 and 15-17 will be completely free. If the update is done after one year from these age slots, a fee of ₹125 will be charged for each MBU. With this new rule, biometric updates for children aged 5 to 17 are almost completely free. This requires new fingerprints, iris scans, and a new photo of the child.
How to update biometrics for children aged 5 to 17?
When a child's first Aadhaar is created, their biometrics are not taken. However, when the child turns 5, their first biometric update (MBU) is required. A second MBU is then performed at age 15.
