A student in the United States first vandalized 17 cars parked in a parking lot and then told ChatGPT the entire incident. Police found evidence of the vandalism during interrogation.

The ChatGPT chatbot has once again come into the spotlight due to the actions of a 19-year-old boy in the United States. This student from Missouri first vandalized cars parked in a parking lot and then returned home and told ChatGPT the entire incident. Instead of informing the police after the incident, the young man chose to talk to the chatbot. During interrogation, police discovered that the accused student had been talking to the chatbot after committing the crime.

Damaged 17 cars

According to media reports, this student, named Ryan Schaefer, damaged 17 parked cars in a parking lot. He arrived at the parking space at 3 a.m. and began vandalizing the vehicles. Police identified the accused through surveillance footage and other evidence. Later, when the investigation began, they searched the accused's iPhone. This revealed that after vandalizing the vehicles, the young man had engaged in a lengthy conversation with ChatGPT and confessed to his crime.

The accused's conversation with ChatGPT

In a conversation with the chatbot, the young man asked how distressed he was and whether he could go to jail for his actions. He then confessed to damaging the vehicles and even threatened the chatbot. The accused further wrote in the conversation that he had committed a similar act last year, and no one found out. He was confident that no one would catch him this time either. In one message, he also wrote that he felt great about vandalizing the vehicles.

Student jailed

Following the vandalism incident, the accused student has been jailed for property damage. Upon his release, he will be required to stay away from alcohol-related places and will be subject to periodic drug and alcohol testing.
