PAN and Aadhaar are used as important documents in India. Both these documents are used for many special purposes. If you do not have a PAN card then you cannot avail any financial benefits. At the same time, the Aadhar card is used as a document for government schemes and identity. In the absence of these two documents, much of your work can remain incomplete.

Linking Aadhar cards with PAN has been made mandatory by the central government. Though the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar without penalty was March 31, 2022, the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar was June 30 with a penalty of Rs 500. After this, i.e. now for linking Aadhaar with PAN, a double penalty of Rs 1000 will have to be paid. On the other hand, users will not be able to link PAN and Aadhaar after 31 March 2023.

What is PAN?

It is a 10-digit alphanumeric number, which is used for financial transactions, bank, tax, and other financial purposes. It contains complete financial information of PAN users, which is saved with the Income Tax Department. By simply tracking the PAN, the Income Tax Department can take complete information about the financial transactions of the individual.

Aadhar card consists of a 12-digit number, which tells the identity of any Indian citizen. Biometric and demographic information of any Indian resident is saved in Aadhaar. Aadhaar is issued by an organization called UIDAI to the citizens of the country. It can be used as an identity card anywhere in the country.

The main purpose of a Permanent Account Number (PAN) is to track and identify every financial transaction. It is issued by the Income Tax Department to the users on the instructions of CBDT. The most important function of PAN is to ensure whether every citizen is paying his taxes or not.

Aadhaar Card is a unique number of a UID, which is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India, a central government agency. The government intends to have a database containing information about every registered citizen of India. Apart from the personal information of a person, it also holds their photograph, fingerprints, and iris scan. With this system of information, it becomes very easy to identify an individual by simply cross-referencing their data with the data in the system.
