Last month, the central government took a surprising step and announced the 8th Pay Commission. More than 15 central employees and pensioners are now eagerly waiting for salary and pension hikes. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, February 4, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said, "The government has approved the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission."

On the question of the appointment and timeline of the members and chairman of the new pay commission, the minister said, "It will be decided in due course."

He said, "I hope that the 8th Pay Commission will be set up by February 15, 2025. The report of the commission will be finalized by November 30 and the government will review it for further consideration in December and the new pay commission can be implemented in the country from January 2026."

How much will be the salary hike?

If the government approves the fitment factor of 2.86, the monthly basic salary of central government employees will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 51,480. Apart from this, the minimum basic pension of pensioners will increase from Rs 9,000 to Rs 25,740.

If the government approves the fitment factor of 2.08, the minimum basic salary of central government employees will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 37,440. Apart from this, the minimum basic pension of pensioners will increase from Rs 9,000 to Rs 18,720. If the government approves the fitment factor of 1.92, the basic minimum salary of central employees will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 34,560. Apart from this, the minimum basic pension of pensioners on this fitment factor can increase from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,280.
